Jonathan Van de Velde started his studies cello at the age of 5.

At 13, he started studying at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp in the class of Ilia Laporev, where he later continued his studies with France Springuel.

 

Jonathan won prizes such as the 1st prize at the International Cello Competition Edmond Baert, two times  1st prize at Dexia Classics, both as soloist and chamber musician together with one of his brothers, 2nd prize at the Young Soloists Competition and 3rd prize at the Rotary International Competition.

 

He also followed masterclasses with cellists such as W. Boettcher, S. Isserlis, J.G. Queyras, Vladimir Perlin, A. Brendel, M.Kliegel, H. Dautry and L. Fenyo.
